A volcano facing the Gulf of Fonseca, with views of its islands and three countries.
The Conchagua Volcano rises in front of the Gulf of Fonseca, in the La Unión department. From its viewpoints, you can observe the islands of the gulf and, when the weather permits, territories of El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. One of its main experiences is found at Espíritu de la Montaña, where you can camp, explore the forest, and watch the sunrise from the high point of the volcano.

Conchagua is a name of Lenca origin commonly interpreted as "narrow valley," although another tradition links it to Comizahual, an indigenous figure whose name means "flying tiger." The volcano is formed by two overlapping structures: the Ocotal and Banderas hills. There are no historically recorded eruptions, although areas with fumarolic activity have been identified on both summits.
