The Ahuachapán coast stretches across the southwest of the country, between estuaries, mangroves, and dark sandy beaches of volcanic origin. The area includes Barra de Santiago, declared a Protected Natural Area and a Ramsar site for hosting the largest mangrove in western El Salvador. Along the corridor, beaches such as Costa Azul and Garita Palmera follow one another, featuring strong waves and a local atmosphere, perfect for surfing and beach walks. Boat tours through the El Zapotero canal allow visitors to observe crocodiles, birds, and other wildlife of the estuary.
