Sapo River

North River of Morazán, in the Arambala area, recognized as the cleanest in El Salvador: analyses attribute around 97 percent purity to it. It flows through minimally disturbed forest and creates pools of cold, clear water. It is the same river that feeds the Las Pilas and La Olomina waterfalls.

The purity of the Sapo River can be explained by its basin: it originates and flows through a stretch of forest in northern Morazán that has remained largely untouched by human intervention, partly because during the armed conflict it was an area of difficult access. Once the war ended, the region was incorporated into the Peace Route circuit, and the river became one of the main natural attractions of the department, featuring camping areas and pools designated for swimming.
