Taquillo is a protected natural area in the municipality of La Libertad Costa, located in the district of Jicalapa, along the coastal highway. Its main beach, Shalpa, features dark sand, rocky formations, and reefs where saltwater pools form during low tide. The waves are gentle, making it not a surfing spot; instead, bodysurfing and paddleboarding are popular activities. The area preserves tropical dry forest and populations of the purple snail. The walk along the beach and the pools takes about two hours.
