About San Vicente

San Vicente is the capital of the homonymous department, located in the central-eastern part of the country, at the foot of the Chichontepec volcano, the second highest in El Salvador. Its historic center preserves the Vicentina Tower, built in 1928, and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, from 1762, facing the central park and the Municipal Palace. The city serves as a starting point to the Apastepeque Lagoon and the Amapulapa tourist center, both fed by volcanic springs. It is also known for its candy-making tradition, featuring panela, yucca sweets, coconut, and tamarind, all crafted in an artisanal manner, as well as its weaving workshops in the San Sebastián district.
