Devil's Door Natural Park

Mirador de Roca Partida at the top of Cerro El Chulo, south of San Salvador, offers stunning views of Lake Ilopango and the Chichontepec Volcano.

There are various legends that narrate its history, one of which tells that during colonial times, the property belonged to the Renderos family, from which the name Los Planes de Renderos is derived.

The daughter of this family, María de La Paz, was courted by the devil himself, which is why they decided to hunt him down. One night, after having courted the young woman, the demon was pursued, and when he found himself trapped, he decided to break the rock to escape through the middle. Since then, it has been known as “La Puerta del Diablo,” due to the curious arch-like shape formed by the two towering rocks that make it up.
