Brief History
Its roots trace back to the 16th century, when there was a colonial chapel here. A fire in 1975 destroyed the building and marked the end of its life as a religious center; today only the restored façade remains. The original statue of José Matías Delgado, donated in 1911 by European colonies residing in the country, was demolished in 1986. In 2011, the park was revitalized as part of the strategy to rescue the Historic Center and was reopened on November 5 of that year, restoring its social function.
