About El Boquerón National Park
El Boquerón National Park offers stunning views of the main crater of the San Salvador volcano from several viewpoints located at its summit. The crater measures approximately 1.5 kilometers in diameter and 558 meters deep; within it, you can see El Boqueroncito, a small volcanic cone. Its short trails, cool climate, and proximity to the capital make it an accessible destination for various types of travelers.

Brief History
Before 1917, there was a lagoon inside the crater of El Boquerón. During the eruption of that year, its waters increased in temperature until they disappeared, and the subsequent explosions formed El Boqueroncito, a cone approximately 30 meters tall that still remains at the bottom. In 2008, El Boquerón National Park was opened to facilitate public access to the viewpoints and trails at the top of the volcano.

Visit Tips
Go early: after noon, the fog usually obscures the view of the crater.
Bring warm clothing even if it's hot in San Salvador: the temperature drops quite a bit up here.
El Picacho is another summit of the same volcano, higher than the crater. It's not the same as El Boquerón.
