Brief History
Designed by artist Rubén Martínez and inaugurated in 1971, El Rosario breaks all expectations of a Salvadoran temple. It is an 80-meter long exposed concrete vault, without a single internal column, and its abstract stained glass windows color the interior as the day progresses. There is nothing else like it in Central America. It houses the remains of the national hero José Matías Delgado and was declared a Cultural Heritage Site in 2015. During the civil war, it served as a meeting point, refuge, and organization for grassroots Christian communities and human rights defenders.
