Nahuizalco is a town in the Sonsonate department that is part of the Ruta de las Flores, in the west of El Salvador. Its artisanal tradition is reflected in the shops and workshops where you will find baskets, mats, and furniture made from tule, wicker, and wood. Strolling through the center allows you to get closer to these crafts and visit the Church of San Juan Bautista, located in front of the main square. As night falls, the night market offers another way to experience the town: tasting local food and enjoying the lively atmosphere of its stalls and shops.

Nahuizalco has indigenous roots that predate the Spanish conquest and is mentioned in the Relación Marroquín of 1532. Its name, derived from Nahuatl, is often interpreted as "Four Izalcos," although there are various explanations regarding its origin and studies that suggest "the Fourth Izalco." During the colonial period, it belonged to the Mayor's Office of Sonsonate. In 1932, the massacre of the indigenous population deeply affected its communities and weakened the transmission of their cultural identity, the preservation of which continues to be an integral part of the life of the town.
