About Montecristo National Park
Montecristo National Park protects one of the last cloud forests in El Salvador. Its trails wind through a cool and humid environment, covered with oaks, laurels, ferns, mosses, bromeliads, and orchids. Within the park, you will find the Hundred-Year Garden, camping areas, and the path to the Trifinio Point, where the borders of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras converge.

Brief History
The territory of Montecristo was part of the old San José Estate until the government acquired nearly 2,000 hectares in 1971 to protect and restore its forests. Montecristo was declared a national park in 1987 and later became part of the Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Trifinio Fraternidad, recognized by UNESCO in 2011.

Visit Tips
Advance reservation required: send the MARN entry form along with the list of visitors to [email protected], or coordinate at 2132-6220. You cannot arrive without notice.
Entrance: $3 Salvadorans, $6 foreigners, $1 private school students, and $0.50 public school students, both with ID. Bring cash: no card payments are accepted.
Entry hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A 4x4 vehicle is needed to go up, and single-use plastic is prohibited in all protected areas.
