Río Chiquito is part of the highest mountain range in El Salvador, within the massif that it shares with Cerro El Pital and Peñón de Cayaguanca. It is an area of cloud forest and cool climate that, in recent decades, has transformed from being exclusively agricultural to concentrating a significant portion of the mountain lodging options in northern Chalatenango.
