About Izalco Volcano
At 1,950 meters high, Izalco Volcano is one of the youngest and most recognizable volcanoes in El Salvador. Its cone rises 650 meters above its base and culminates in a crater approximately 250 meters in diameter. The ascent traverses slopes of loose volcanic rock and requires good physical condition. From the summit, you can see Santa Ana Volcano, Cerro Verde, and the coastal plain of Sonsonate.

Brief History
The Izalco volcano began to form in 1770 on the southern flank of the Santa Ana volcano. Its frequent eruptions raised a cone of 650 meters in less than two centuries, and its nighttime explosions could be seen from the sea, which is why it was known as the "Lighthouse of the Pacific." Its last eruption occurred in 1966 and produced a lava flow from the southern flank.
