About Los Volcanes National Park (Cerro Verde)
In the Los Volcanes National Park, you will find three completely distinct landscapes: the forest that covers Cerro Verde, the dark cone of Izalco Volcano, and the active crater of Santa Ana Volcano. From its various sectors, you can enjoy hikes, visit viewpoints, and organize guided ascents to the volcanoes. The variety of elevations also allows you to discover orchids, bromeliads, agaves, and vegetation that grows directly on ancient lava flows.

Brief History
The volcanic activity from different eras has shaped a landscape of craters, forests, and extensive lava flows around Cerro Verde, Izalco, and Ilamatepec. The natural and hydric importance of this area led to its protection as the Los Volcanes National Park. Its management plan was approved in 2006, and in 2007, it became part of the Apaneca-Ilamatepec Biosphere Reserve recognized by UNESCO.

Visit Tips
It is the only park of MARN where you don't need to make a reservation: you can go directly to the San Blas or Las Brumas sectors without prior notice.
Entrance: San Blas sector $2, Los Andes sector $3 for Salvadorans and $6 for foreigners. Students with ID pay $1 (private) or $0.50 (public). Cash only.
San Blas has its own schedule: Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays it opens from 3:30 a.m. for the early morning ascent to Ilamatepec.
