Berlín is a mountain town in the Usulután department, located in the Tecapa-Chinameca mountain range in eastern El Salvador. Its coffee-growing history is evident in the surrounding plantations and in the old houses in the town center, some adorned with metal sheeting decorated with reliefs. Strolling through the streets around the park and the San José church allows visitors to discover these details and pause for a coffee. The visit can continue to the viewpoints nearby, where the mountainous landscape and photo opportunities provide another perspective of the region.
Berlín emerged from the Agua Caliente valley, also known as Gramalón, which belonged to Tecapa, now Alegría. On October 31, 1885, it was elevated to a town with its current name, a choice attributed to the German resident Serafín Brennen. By the late 19th century, the coffee boom fueled its growth and attracted European immigrants linked to production and trade. Berlín was granted city status in 1909 and still retains houses from that coffee-growing era, a part of the history that can still be observed in its streets.
