About Green Lagoon
Located at over 1,600 meters above sea level, Laguna Verde offers a stunning crater landscape surrounded by forest and a cool climate. Reeds, oaks, tatascamites, and orchids thrive in its surroundings, along with small aquatic birds. It’s a perfect stop for hiking, enjoying the mountain environment, and exploring another part of the Apaneca mountain range.

Brief History
Laguna Verde partially occupies the crater of Cerro Laguna Verde, a stratovolcano formed during the Pleistocene and part of the Apaneca volcanic mountain range. Some craters on its flanks are among the youngest volcanic centers in the area, although there is no confirmed date for its last eruption. On its northern flank, part of the Ahuachapán geothermal field is developed, which has been used to generate electricity since 1975.
